Recently this year, there has been a dress that went viral on the internet that caused the debate of that color it is. Some say that the color of it is black and blue, but others disagree and say that it is white and gold. I saw the dress as blue and black at first, but later on as gold and white.
After this entire debate, Scientists stepped in to explain everything: the brain perceives the colors you see by using context. So, when the brain doesn't have enough information to interpret an image, it fills in the missing blanks by guessing what could be there, using a few details. As it was explained by the chief of ophthalmology at West Penn Hospital, the brain makes out some parts of the picture it believes to be crucial and ignores the rest. Each person's brain interprets this information differently, which allows some people to see one of the two combinations of colors, or both. Some people ignoring blue and black background light in the image, but others paying attention to that only, blocking out the white light.
According to the scientists who have studied this, it turns out that the original color of the dress is actually blue and black. :)
