The Great Dress - Color Debate of 2K15

For the past month, the media has been having a huge rave about a dress that was posted on Tumblr by a 21-year-old, Caitlin McNeill. The photo of the dress was originally token by Cecilia Bleasdale, who was buying a dress for her daughter's upcoming wedding. With the photo being sent to her daughter, Grace Bleasdale, she had also shared it with her newly wed husband, Keir Johnson. Keir and Grace had many various discussions about the color of the dress, with Keir seeing white and gold, while Grace sees black and blue. The true colors of the dress went further in to craze in Twitter when over 1 million tweets included the hashtag #TheDress.

As from my own encounter with the dress, I saw it as black and blue. Though as science came to the rescue and finally explained this dress. Before we start, the dress was actually BLACK and BLUE (even check out the wedding pictures of Grace and Keir with her mom). The brain has learned to perceive things in many different ways; meaning images aren't processed the way we see it, but how the brain builds it. From the article, Professor Smith said that since the dress took about 90% of the space in the photo, some people forget to focus to on the blue light background, making their brain recognize the dress as white and gold, while the people who ignore the yellow, white light background, the see the dress as black and blue. This leads to the actual lighting of how the dress was taken in.

This debate took interest in me for a while, but at the end of the day it is just a dress that was bought for a wedding and won't really matter.
