Physical and Chemical Changes

Three Physical Changes are:

1.Dissolving sugar
When you dissolve sugar, you are changing the way it looks and the state its in. The color also goes from white to clear.

2.Crushing a water bottle
When crushing a water bottle, you are changing the size which causes it to look differently.

3. Cutting a piece of string
When you cut the string, you are changing the size of the string.

Three Chemical Changes are:

1.Rusting of a metal handle
If you look at an old door, you might see that the handle may begin to rust. This is because it has been there for a long time.

2.Baking a cake
When baking a cake, it starts to rise, which is because of the chemicals you made it with.

3.Using a chemical battery

Physical and chemical changes

PHYSICAL CHANGES

1. The first thing i observed was water freezing and turning into ice.
I categorized this as a physical change, as it is still water and it just froze by changing its physical state from liquid to a solid.

2. The second thing i observed was an egg boiling. This is a physical change because it is still an egg, but it turned from a liquid to a solid state.

3. I observed turning a light bulb on, turns a dark room, into a well lit room. This is a physical change as it is changing the room, and you can still bring back the darkness.

CHEMICAL CHANGES

1. I observed how instant dry yeast reacts with hot water and sugar to create a frothy solution. This is a chemical change, as you can clearly see that it is changing the things used to make something else.

2. I observed when you add fabric stain remover to water and put a stained cloth in, there is a chemical reaction, and the stain is removed.

3. I observed that my baby brothers bubble machine makes bubbles, by blowing air into soapy water. this is a chemical change because the air interacts with the soapy water, making something new (bubbles).

Cool physical and chemical changes

Three Really Cool Physical changes are

- Steam turning into water when it touches a surface
This is a physical change because it changes its state from a gas to a liquid
- Crumpling a piece of paper
Crumpling a piece of paper is changing the shape, the size, and the texture.
- Cutting a piece of paper
Cutting a piece of paper is a physical change because you are changing the shape, the size, and the texture.

Three Really Cool Chemical changes are

- My locker rusting after a long time
The locker oxidizes after time. Oxidization is a chemical change.
- Mixing Baking soda and Vinegar to make Carbon
Its a chemical change because its changing to a new substance using different substances this is not reversible
- Baking a cake
Its a chemical change because its changing to a new substance using different substances this is not reversible
Three cool physical changes:
1. Flat soccer ball
You add air into the ball to inflate it back up.
2.Flower mixes with milk
My mom was making cake and when she put the flower with the milk it became a liquid.
3.When water evaporates.
I left a bowl of water outside in the sun and it evaporated and became a gas.
Three cool chemical changes:
1.putting fruit in the compost pile
My mom puts all the fruit in the compost pile and it turns to dirt.
2.Leaving bread out becomes moldy.
I found bread on the table that was moldy. The mold consumes the sugar, water, and minerals in the bread.
3.Car battery acid to start a car engine
The chemical reaction when the battery discharges, converts positive and negative electrodes to led sulphate.

Physical Changes:

1. Ice melting
I listed it under physical changes, because the properties of physical changes say that there is a physical change when the state of matter changes.

2. Water evaporating
You can change the gas into different states of matter by using the water cycle.

3. Melting margarine
The state of the margarine changes from solid ti liquid. So does the color.

Chemical Changes:

1. Lighting up a candle
There is an interaction between oxygen molecules and the other substances around.
2. Frying an egg
Well the first reason is obviously; you cant bring an egg back once its friend because its denatured.

3. Banana rotting
Decomposition is listed as one of the properties for chemical properties. A banana rotting is basically decomposing a fruit.

1. My first physical change is the haircut I got on sunday, I observed half of my head being shaved off  with a razor. The reason I categorised this as a physical change because it is reversible and it only affects the length, shape, and look of my hair.

2. My second physical change is me ripping and throwing away a piece of scrap paper. I obsereved the paper being ripped then crumbled together and thrown away. I categorise this as a physical change because I could easily glue it back together, and also that it only affected the shape and size of the paper.

3. My third and last physical change is me drawing a picture on a piece of paper. I observed myself drawing a car with a black pen on the paper. The reason I categorised this as a physical change is because I only changed the appearance of the paper.

4. My first chemical change is when I digested my food. I observed this because I know that after you eat your body goes through a chemical change and changes the food into something else.I categorised this as a chemical change because two substances, my food and the chemicals inside my body interacted to make something else.

5. My second chemical change is when I used soap to clean my hands. What I observed was the soap cleaning my hands through chemical reactions. I categorised  this as a chemical change because two substances mixed together to take-away the oil form my hands.

6. My third and last chemical change is when my mom cooked some chicken and the raw pinkish chicken turned into oily, tasty brown chicken. I categorised this as a chemical change because the different spices oil and heat changed the raw chicken into edible chicken.

Physical and Chemical Changes

PHYSICAL CHANGES

1)Shredding Paper
While shredding a sheet paper in my house,I noticed that no new substance was created and there was only change in the size and shape of the matter(paper). This is a physical change as no chemical reaction occurred and no new substance was formed.

2)Breaking a Glass
While drinking water, my glass fell accidentally fell on the ground and shattered into pieces. This is a physical change as the glass takes different size and shape on breaking but the composition of the shattered glass pieces remains the same as that of the original glass. There is no change of color from the original piece.

3)Mixing Sand and Water
Some children were mixing sand and water together. I noticed that it was a physical change because during mixing, the substances do not react chemically with each other to produce any gas, color or sound and they can be converted back to sand and water.

CHEMICAL CHANGES

1)Rusting of Iron
While playing around in my compound, I observed rusting on some fences. This happens due to humidity in the area. These are chemical changes as these are the results of the process of oxidation and can not be converted back to their original form. The texture also changes and it becomes flaky. The color turns reddish brown.

2)Burning of Firecrackers
During festivals, lots of firecrackers are burned. The burning of firecrackers are chemical changes as we notice the combustion reaction. The state also changes and the powder in the firecracker turns into harmful gases and emits light, odor and sound. This change is irreversible.

3)Using a Chemical Battery
While using batteries in my torch, I realized that there was a chemical change happening. The batteries use electrochemical energy, a chemical reaction to produce electrical energy and as this can not be turned back to chemical energy, it is irreversible.

Physical and Chemical Changes

Even though I already did this, I wanted to answer the questions we were supposed to.

Three cool physical changes are:

-Shredding Paper. This would be considered a physical change to me because despite the fact that it is shredded, it is still paper.

-Squishing a Can. I believe that this is a physical change and not a chemical one because you can, if you try really hard, get the can back so its original state, and it is still a can.

- Boiling Water. I would consider this a physical change because boiled water is still water nevertheless.

Three cool chemical changes are:

-Baking a Cake. I consider this one a chemical change because you cannot get the ingredients that you used to bake the cake back.

- Burning Paper. I believe this to be a chemical change because once the paper is burned you cannot get it back.

- Leaving a Nail Outside and Rust Forms. I consider this a chemical reaction rather than a physical one because the rust comes from a chemical reaction that occurs when the nail is exposed to oxygen.

Sincerely,
Alina Amin

3 types of Chemical and Physical Changes.

Physical Changes:

1.Water changing color with food coloring
-I changed the color of the water.
2.Ice cream melt
-It changed it's state from solid to liquid. It can return to solid by freezing it again.
3.Ice cube melting
-Also changing the state from solid to liquid, it will return to a solid if I out it in the freezer.

Chemical Changes:

1.Food being digested
-The food was dissolved with acids and cannot turn back
2.Burning a peice of wood
-Flammability was used on the wood and it turned into ash. It can not return back into wood.
3.Baking Muffins.
I used a couple of ingredients to make a batch of muffins, and I can not get those ingredients back

Science Physical and Chemical Changes

Physical Changes:

-I had this liquid on a spoon above a lit candle, it turned into a crystal and I knew that it was only a physical change, because this only changed the way the substance looked.

-I put water in the freezer and saw that it froze, a physical change because it didn't do anything to alert a chemical change.

-I put sugar in water and dissolved it to make a solution, this is a physical change because it can be reversed.

Chemical Changes:

-Someone lighted the candle and I watched the string burn its self out, this is a chemical change because its not reversible.

-My mom put the cookies in the oven and I watched from outside the heat forging the batter into a new substance, cookies.

-I put baking soda in a tissue then pushed it into a bottle filled with vinegar, then I left the bottle alone for a bit. It erupted and made a bubbly gas, this is a chemical change because of the gas released.

- a rotting banana

- Mira Maalouf🙊

Physical Changes:
1) Ripping Paper
I ripped last week's study guide. It changed shape. It's chemicals stayed the same, so this was a physical change.

2) Putting glass in the freezer
I put glass in the freezer. It cracked, and changed color. This didn't affect the chemicals of the glass, so this was a physical change.

3) Punching a book
I punched a blue book which was boring and bad. There were two changes caused by pressure. One was the shape of the book, and the second one was the color of my hand. This was a physical change, because only the shape of the book changed, nothing happened to its chemicals.

Chemical Changes:
1) Baking cookies
I baked cookies, and the cookies got baked. The chemicals in the cookies changed, so this was a chemical change.

2) Burning wood
I burned wood, and at the end, the wood burned into ashes. The chemicals of the wood changed, so this was a chemical change.

3) Spraying deodorant on fire
I burned some more wood, and sprayed deodorant on the fire. When I did that, flames got everywhere. This was a chemical change, because its chemicals changed.

Chemical and Physical Changes

Physical Changes:

1. Boiling Water
I observed that the water evaporated into the air. However it can turn back into a liquid, therefore I have categorized boiling water into physical changes.

2. Crumpling Paper
I observed that when I crumple a paper and open it back out it is still the same paper but a different form. I have categorized this as a physical change because it is the same paper and can turn back to normal.

3. Melting Wax
I observed that when a candle is burning that the wax melts away and turns into a liquid. I have categorized as a physical change because when the flame goes out then the wax can turn back into a solid.

Chemical Changes:

1. Frying an Egg
I observed that when you fry an egg some of it changes color and it turns into a solid. I have categorized this as a chemical change because it can't change back into the state it was at first.

2. Rusting Bike
I observed that when a bike rusts it turns into a brown color. This is a chemical change because it can't be changed back into its original form.

3. Burning Wood
I observed that when wood is burnt it turns into a ash and can change shape. However it can't be changed back into its original form.

Physical changes:

1. I observed juice solidifying and becoming solid. It is a physical change because I saw the state, the size and the texture changing but not forming a new substance and also because this process is reversible.

2. I observed water boiling and becoming gaz. It is a physical change because I saw the state, the shape, and the texture changing but not forming a new substance and also because this process is reversible.

3. I observed Ice-cream melting and becoming a liquid. It is a physical change because I saw the state and the size and the texture changing but not forming a new substance and also because this process is reversible.

Chemical changes

1. I observed paper catching fire. It is a chemical change because it reacted with another substance to form a new substance and also because this process is irreversible.

2. I observed bread being deteriorated by my saliva. It is a chemical change because it reacted with another substance to form a new substance and also because this process is irreversible.

3. I observed some metals getting rusted because of the humidity outside. It is a chemical change because it reacted with another substance to form a new substance and also because this process is irreversible.

science

Three really cool physical changes are:
-When you freeze water to make ice. I chose this because we make a lot of ice in our house and I love to eat ice.
-When you fold a piece of paper. I chose this because I love making things out of paper.
-When you paint something. I chose this because I love art and I love to color thinks so I was painting a picture.

Three really cool chemical changes are:
-When you put oil on a hot pan and it sizzles. I chose this because we were making steak and we used oil to fry them.
-When you bake a cake and it rises. I chose this because i love cake and my mom was making a cake for something.
-When you boil an egg in a pot. It is chemical because the egg is reacting to the heat from the pot.

Physical & Chemical Changes

Physical Changes:
1. Crushing a can(:

When crushing a can you are changing the shape of the can. You're changing the appearance.
2. Water transforming into ice cubes

When transforming water into ice cubes, it goes from a clear liquid object to more of a white solid object.
3. Shredding paper

After shredding paper you change the length of each piece.

Chemical Changes:
1. Baking a cake

When baking a cake you transform ingredients into one whole thing. Therefore you cannot get any of those ingredients back.
2. The metabolism in the human body

As food gets to the human body it slowly breaks down bit by bit then the acids in the stomach break it all apart.
3. Boiling sugar

When boiling sugar in water the substance slowly dissolves in throughout the water.

Science

Physical Changes:
1. Boiling water: I observed that when I boiled the water it evaporated. It can go back to being normal water by the water cycle.
2. Melting ice: I saw that when the ice malted it looked and felt different. It can go back to being ice by pitting it into the freezer.
3. Breaking Glass: When I dropped the glass I observed that the glass shattered on the floor and the shape looked different. The glass can be put back together by putting glue on it.

Chemical Changes:
1. Mixing two different colors to create a new color: When I mixed two colors together, a new color was created. The color was different then it was before. I could not put it back to its original color.
2. A Rusting Bicycle: When the bicycle rusted it felt and looked different. I cannot return the original color which made it a chemical change.
3. Burning toast: When I was burning my toast I saw that it felt harder and the color had changed. Since I could not melt it or do anything to return it to its original color it is a chemical change

Science Physical and Chemical Changes

Physical Changes:

1. Breaking a glass
When I broke the glass, the shape of it changed. I realized that the break did not affect it's chemicals.

2. Tearing  paper
The shape of the paper has changed. It did not not affect the chemicals in the paper.

3. Molding clay
When I squashed the clay, I could have molded it into any SHAPE or size... so it affected the shape and size of the clay. They chemicals have not been interfered with.

Chemical Changes:

1. Cooking (raw) food
The chicken strip was added into hot oil. The chicken gets cooked;  which kind of means that the chemicals are also getting cooked... which is a chemical change. The shape of the chicken strip was not affected.

2. Photosynthesis
The inside of plants change, the chemical reactions inside make the plant grow more and more each time it receives sunlight. The shape of the plant can also expand; but that wouldn't happen unless photosynthesis happened.

3. Combining vinegar and baking soda :P
When Ii combines vinegar and baking soda, it created a totally different substance. The chemicals reacted really quickly to each other.

Physical & Chemical Changes

Physical Changes:
1. Broken Glass
The glass was chipped and it's categorized as a physical change because something affected the actual object and it didn't have anything to do with a chemical change.
2. Ice Cube Melting
The Ice Cube was condensating and because of the warmth, the ice was slowly changing back to its liquid state. Because it has nothing to do with chemicals, it only changes physically.
3. Ripping Paper
While I was ripping the paper I knew that nothing was changing chemical wise it was just the fact of my physical doing is why it was changing and it's categorized as a physical change.

Chemical Changes:
1. Burning Candle
I observed that when I add the fire to the candle, the candle starts burning and the wax starts to melt. And I already know that fire needs oxygen to burn. So that's how it's categorized as a chemical change.
2. Dissolving Salt In Water
I observed that when salt is mixed into water and the state of the salt changes. The salt mixes in with the water and it dissolves and with chemicals working together, that's the only way that can happen.
3. Digesting Food
Just like everyone I eat, and I realized that while eating the food is digested with chemicals inside of us humans and that breaks down the food and digests it. That's a chemical change because the food does change its form, it's a chemical change.
