My Knowledge on Motion
But I also learned about topics like a reference point that you use to see if motion is happening or not. From the reference point came out the relative motion, which explains why somethings seem to be in motion but can also not be in motion, its all relative to what you use as a reference point. It also told me about the International system of Units that uses meters to measure distance so that all measurements stay equal when scientist trade notes and conclusions.From motion comes out acceleration, I learned how to figure out how fast the object accelerates, final speed minus the initial speed divided by the time, will get the acceleration. Acceleration is not only increasing speed but is also decreasing speed and changing direction. All three of these changes in speed are was of an object accelerating. Something moves because of acceleration and how it compares to the reference point, even the tiniest movement is motion. That is most of what I had learned in the Motion unit, it helped me get a grasped on what is to come in science.

When you think of it, when you think to reflect about motion your brain's cells are moving. trolololo
When we first started the lesson, to be honest, I faced many difficulties as the teacher started explaining the first section of the chapter and I was kind of lost since I had never studied about motion and how objects move before. As a matter a fact, just before that, as our teacher Miss. Ahmad started explaining, she told us to write down what exactly is motion. I remember putting down:" Motion is the movement of an object. It is its traveling speed in the air". And now as I reread it, I realize how much I have learned form this chapter and that now, I am able to expand and add on to this simple basic answer that served as a foundation. I learned a lot of things about this subject not only through the intense explanation of Miss. Ahmad but also through many assessments, questions activities and a mind map. The mind map especially assisted my learning as it was a new but effective tool that helped me visually analyze the information and store it adequately and swiftly in my brain.
Anyways, if I had to think of motion as center branch, it would definitely be attached to four other sub branches that encompass everything that we learned in the 3 sections of this chapter. Those branches would be measured in, compared to, described by, and happens when. The first branch would explain how motion is measured in the International System of Units (SI) that is used by scientists all over the world. It comes from the French phrase "Systeme Internationale" and this system describes all quantities such as length, mass, time… The second branch would clarify how to determine if an object is in motion or not, and how this object has to change position (distance or direction) compared to a reference point that is used for comparison. This reference point can either be stationary (tree…) or moving (moving car…). However it is always better to have a stationary reference point rather than a moving one because a moving reference point might trick you into thinking that you are moving when actually you aren't. And depending on this reference point the object is moving or not. For example if there is a book on table and the reference point is the table the book isn't moving but if the reference point is the sun it is moving because Earth is moving around the sun and the distance between them differs every second. The third branch would explain how motion is described by acceleration. And in science, acceleration (the rate at which velocity changes) is an increase in speed, decrease in speed or change in direction. Acceleration can also be found by dividing the final speed minus the initial speed over time where time is always squared in the answer and it can be graphed in a speed versus time or distance versus time graph. And finally the last branch explains when motion occurs, that is when there is a change in velocity. Velocity is composed of direction which is crucial in some cases (airplanes…) and also speed which is distance over time. And in science, there are two kinds of speed: instantaneous which is measured by a speed graph and average speed which is found by dividing the total distance by the total time. And speed can also be graphed in a distance versus time graph where the slope of this graph represents the rate of change in speed and can be found by calculating the rise over the run. If the slope is a straight line, there is a constant speed and depending on its steepness, we can know if the object is moving slower or faster. And finally we also learned how the Earth's plates move very slowly causing the Earth's landmasses to change over time 9it has changed a lot actually from 250 million years ago). This happens due to the rising of hot materials heating up from the Earth's core's extremely boiling temperature. This rise of hot material pushes the cooler materials at the top layer aside which eventually sink down; this rising and seeking of material create small vibrations within the Earth's crust which then leads to moving plates. And to add on to this as well as link this acquired knowledge to a modern situation (Nepali earthquake), we also learned how this is also linked to earthquakes and how when two plates move in opposite directions, pressure builds up until a fault happen and this huge energy accumulated over a long time transforms into the form of vibrations and shakes which create a devastating earthquake
To conclude I want to say that in general, I have learned a lot in this lesson considering the fact that I knew nothing at the start and I have also gained a lot of knowledge in physics on motion. I would also like to thank Miss. Ahmad for her hard work and for all the time she used to make sure that we all understand every bit of this easy but long lesson that required determination and perseverance and I am very excited to learn about force that ties in with motion.

Motion Reflection
At the beginning of this unit on motion, I knew very little information and could not comprehend and clearly understand what motion really is. Then we did projects and analysis's along with reading text from the books which helped me clarify any queries I had about motion.
To me, motion can only be occurring if you have a reference point that is either stationary or moving. A reference point is an object or place that can be used to determine whether an object's distance from another is changing. You would be able to determine if an object is in motion by picking a reference point that is stationary or moving, like the sun. For example, compare a pen on your desk in motion to your bed. This means that the pen is not in motion as the pen itself, is stationary and so is the bed. However, if you would refer the pen to the sun, the pen would be in motion as the sun in rotating and the distance between the pen and sun varies.
While studying about motion, we also learned about speed, velocity, and acceleration. Speed calculates the distance traveled per unit of time while the speed given in direction is the velocity. Acceleration is related to velocity because it is the rate at which velocity changes. An object can accelerate in three different ways: changing direction, increasing speed and decreasing speed. To take in all of this information with not too many doubts and questions, we had created Mind Maps which were easy to study from as they were color codes which allowed me to group information that related to each other, so it would be easier when it came to the chapter test.

Before we started the unit about motion and, barely knew what it was and how I would be able to describe what motion is. But now I feel very confident about it, and I believe I can thoroughly explain what motion is and when an object is in motion.
I learned that an object is in motion when its distance from another object is changing. To determine whether or not an object is in motion, you usually use a reference point. A reference point is a place or object used for comparison to determine if something is in motion. Stationary objects make good reference points. If a reference point is not stationary then it would be very hard to determine if an object is in motion. There is also such thing as relative motion and that is when you can state that whether or not an object is moving depends on the reference point that you choose. I also learned that scientists all over the world use the same measuring system, that way communication is much more easier and clearer. The system of measurement is called the International System of Units or, in french Systeme International (SI). SI units are used to describe the distance an object moves. The (SI) unit of length is the meter. But that's not it, I learned all about speed, how to calculate it, same goes to acceleration. Graphing motion is also something that I now know how to do. In this unit we were also taught about Earth's plates, the Theory of Plate Tectonics, and plates movement and why they move.

Before we started motion I didn't know anything about it. However, now that I have finished the chapter about motion and learned about everything in the chapter I know a lot more about motion than I did before. I learned many things. The first thing is that an object is in motion when its distance from another object is changing. I also learned different ways to calculate motion. For example average speed, instantaneous speed, velocity, acceleration, and much more. I learned that the motion of an object is determined by its reference point. For example a moving car is in motion in reference to a tree. I also learned about plate tectonics and how they are constantly in motion in reference to the equator. I also learned that in order to predict how much a plate will move in a certain amount of time you must multiply the plate's speed by its time. In order to help us learn about all of this material we used mind maps and took notes. The mind map really helped me organise my thoughts and see what I had learned, clearly. At the start of this chapter I thought that I wouldn't enjoy it as there was no live science involved. The outcome was the exact opposite. Overall, I really enjoyed learning about this chapter and I now understand what motion is.

What I Know About Motion
Since we began to learn about the topic of Motion, I knew a fair amount about the topic itself. For one, I had already known that speed would be distance over time, since speed is really just how much distance is covered in a set amount of time, whether it's how many metres a body covers in one second, or if it is how many kilometres a body travels in one hour. I also knew that velocity was just speed with a given direction, and that acceleration was just the different rate of change of speed. Acceleration is the rate of change of speed in a moving body. It is how fast a body changes its speed. However, I did not know that the change of direction, where another force acts upon a moving body, is a form of acceleration. The SI unit of speed is m/s, as the SI unit of distance is metres(m) and the SI unit of time is seconds(s). The SI unit of acceleration is m/s2
Inside this topic of motion, we were taught about reference points. A reference point is frame that can be in stasis or motion, in which we can refer motion of a body to. A reference frame is better when it is static, as we can have reliable source to measure the motion of a body. We measure the motion of the body, if it has changed distance or perspective in regards to the reference point.
To describe motion, we simply just describe the body at 2 different time frames. If the body has altered in any form in between the 2 time frames, whether in location or appearance, then it has moved, therefore motion has taken place. Motion abides by the classical laws of mechanics, from which derived from the 3 laws of motion, proposed and created by Sir Isaac Newton. Motion however, is not the same on the sub-atomic scale, and must abide by the laws of Quantum Mechanics.

After the motion unit, I have gained more knowledge in physics on motion. For example, when we started, I wasn't able to comprehensively reflect on the background information of motion, and how objects moves. Now I understand how to determine if an object is in motion: using a reference point, which can be any object, to compare with the other object. Now to put the meaning of motion into words: an object is in motion if it's distance from another object, preferably a stationary reference point, is changing. Determining whether an object is in motion or not can differ depending on the reference point, or what the object is relative to. For example, a book sitting on a table with reference to the table, or relative to the table, is not in motion because the distance between the two objects is not changing. If you look at the object with a different perspective and use a different reference point, for instance the sun, you would say that the book is in motion because, the book that is located on Earth, is rotating around the sun, changing position in reference to the sun. Along with studying motion, the unit built up and tied in with speed, velocity, and acceleration, which are used to describe objects in motion. Speed calculate the distance traveled per unit of time, and speed in a given direction is velocity. Acceleration is the rate at which velocity changes, and an object can accelerate in the following ways: increasing speed, decreasing speed, and changing direction. To organize all this information and shows the connections between each of the terms, we created Mind Maps. My mind map and all its colors and shapes helped me get my thoughts straight and also were a good studying tool. In conclusion, my knowledge on motion has increased majorly and now, at the end of the unit, I clearly understand how to explain motion and how to measure it.

BREAKING NEWS: Majestic Dress Discrepancy Hits Home
This just in, a major discrepancy has surfaced across the globe due to a controversial Tumblr post by a widely-known specimen that appears to be a woman. Many people have feared a possible outbreak of war and utter chaos due to a simple disagreement over a dress. For some, the dress is black and blue, others see it as white and gold. This picture quickly grew more popular and popular as time went on. This debate is tearing families apart, forcing people to think that certain people are going crazy. Others think that other people are just messing with each other. Others argue that the dress is not even a dress at all (See Video below).

I am shocked to announce that the dress is indeed colored black and blue. I myself first saw the dress as white and gold, later I saw it as black and blue. We can only turn towards science to answer what the heck is happening. To answer our questions, we have Dr. Smith, a scientist and professor at the University of Pittsburgh. He stated; "We don't take a perfect photo. We have limited information and use context to figure out what's going on." This basically means that our brain tries to solve the whole puzzle, even if there is little information available. The picture taken itself is not of good pixel quality, that's why the image is not 100% accurate of what the dress actually looks like in real life. Another scientist, by the name of John J. Guehl III, stated that; "It (the brain) decides what's the part that counts and makes changes on how it is perceiving the other parts…" This whole dress drama can be seen as an optical illusion and should be dismissed. People should be less concerned about this dress as science shows clear proof that this is nothing to be worried about.

White, gold, black or blue or even pink for Katy Perry
White and gold or black and blue? Seems simple and stupid but this "stupid" question over the dress' colors created a huge debate and for the past weeks, people from all around the word have been sharing, on the Internet, what they see. It all started when a girl, after arguing with her husband, shared this photo on Tumbler asking for the true color of the dress. Since then, this debate became worldwide, and scientists eventually started debating over it too, seeking for a true answer to end all this. They concluded that after all, blue and black was the "true" color of the dress and since different people see different colors because of the different ways our different brains analyze the information it gets from our eyes, it is normal to interpret the color of this dress not in the same exact way. As a matter a fact, it isn't, like many people think, taking a photo with our eyes and posting it in the brain. We take in limited information through our eyes resulting in an imperfect photo and we use the context to figure out what's going on and complete the missing pieces. Some scientists even referred to this dress as an optical illusion saying that the brain figures out the important parts of a picture, and ignores the rest of it. It also decides what parts are important and makes changes on how it perceives the other negligible parts depending on that. Scientists also stated that since the dress takes up most of the photo, there are few details and information in the photo and therefore, the brain has to make guesses about the light when the picture was taken, which can go either way. And once again, since, for each individual, our brain operates differently, some people might pay less attention to the blue background light, and not ignore the white or yellow light, seeing a blue and black dress and vice versa. This interpretation can also be affected by their own personal experiences according to some scientists.
Personally, I find that although this topic may seem useless, if you really understand it and get into it it's actually really interesting because you get to discover and learn how your own brain and body interprets the external world compared to others and how your brain is unique in many ways. To be honest, when I first spotted this picture a couple of weeks ago, I remember seeing a blue and black dress. And intrigued by how and why some of my friends saw it as white and gold, I got back to it a couple of days later, seeing it as well as white and gold. I did the exact same thing again and I went back to seeing it as black and blue. And today, I understand why every time my brain interpreted this visual information differently. And for me, it is really important and meaningful to learn something actually interesting and yet intriguing about ourselves and I am very grateful to Miss. Ahmad for choosing this topic as an assignment.

The Color Of #TheDress
to a storm. A whole worldwide debate began upon what the color of the
dress was, either there was a team black and blue or team white and
gold. While some people saw one of these shades, some actually saw
both! I saw the dress as white and gold, and still see the same color.
This dress created several misunderstandings and finally science
stepped in to help solve this mystery. A professor at the University
Of Pittsburgh name Matthew A. Smith explained that the brain takes
information from the world through the eyes and tries to figure out
what is going on. Each person interprets the image in a different way.
Your surroundings also play a role on how you see the image. People
living in Pittsburgh believe that the dress is black and gold, because
it is the color of Steelers and some local teams. The dress turned out
to be black and blue
